Having your business online is more crucial now than ever before

Can you believe it? Almost all consumers now rely on the online world for researching local products and services. A new report out by BIA/Kelsey and Constat confirms what we know has been building for some time. Local businesses can no longer ignore the online space if they hope to be sustainable. The online usage and search level for local consumers is a phenomenal statistics when you consider it's real world implications for local business. Many of the people in my community that I see at local businesses are now doing what I have been doing for years...searching online to find the nearest hair salon, restaurant or realtor.

The online sophistication of local consumers might suprise you. While there is no doubt that Google is the starting point for most local searches, statistics show that consumers are turning to 7.9 sources on average to do their local research and it doesn't end there. According to WebProNews' summary, "58% of respondants report using an online coupon when shopping for local products or services in their local area in the past year. 19% of respondants reported making an appointment in the past 6 months for a service besides a restaurant reservation (e.g. hair appointment, doctors appointment, personal service or automotive service.)

If you have a business and your not doing much or anything at all online, what does this tell you?
